Rhythmic Gymnastics

It may have been bitterly cold outside, but the gym inside the Pierre Charbonneau Centre in Montreal radiated warmth every time Evgeniya Kanaeva stepped on the floor over two days of competition at the first rhythmic gymnastics World Cup ever held in North America.

The Russian Olympic champion wasn’t perfect in all her routines, but there was no mistaking her extraordinary talent and the instant rapport she established with the spectators in the stands, shaking their heads in disbelief at Kanaeva’s dazzling moves on all four apparatus.

At the end of the day, Kanaeva marched out of the gym with gold medals in the ribbon and ball events, and silver and bronze on hoop and rope respectively.

Just after the victory ceremonies, Kanaeva gave her impressions of the competition and her performance with the help of popular rhythmic gymnastics coach and judge BB Ignatova acting as translator.
