Jaylan Birl has a floor routine that can make heads spin with the great height he gets on his double somersaults, and the power in his tumbling lines. Birl’s floor routine at the 2010 Canadian championships in Kamloops, B.C., was right on the money with an eye-catching “double piked arabian, half-out, that drew high praise from men’s program director Jeff Thomson.

In simple terms, Birl performs a double front somersault in the pike position, starting backwards with a half twist and finishing with a half twist at the end.
“There aren’t very many gymnasts doing that move the way Jaylan does it,” says Thomson. “What makes it unique are the half twists at the beginning and end of the move,” says Thomson. “It’s very impressive.”
Comments on the Gymnastics Canada You Tube Channel left no doubt about Jaylan’s eye-popping floor routine:
“His first pass is absolutely ridiculous!!! Wow!
“Wow, I have someone to follow in canada now. Awesome.”
“Ooooooomg amaazzzing. this guy.”

For Birl, learning the move came relatively easily as he explains just after winning the men’s junior title for the second straight year at the Canadian championships.
